Carlsberg India Pvt. Ltd, the local unit of the Danish brewer that sells beer brands such as Tuborg and Carlsberg, said on Wednesday that it had acquired its sixth brewery in the country.
The brewery is located in Dharuhera, Haryana, and the acauisition is a part of the company’s plans to expand in the Indian market. Additionally, the beer maker also laid the cornerstone for a seventh brewery in Patna, the company said in a statement.
Carlsberg operates breweries in Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh.
“The acquisition of a brewery in Haryana and setting up of the district Patna brewery reaffirms Carlsberg’s commitment to India,” said Soren Lauridsen, managing director of Carlsberg India. “The ambition of Carlsberg India is to be the fastest growing beer company, by offering premium international quality brands to the Indian consumers.”
Carlsberg India’s market share in the period between January and September was 7%. This excludes Tamil Nadu.
Carlsberg started commercial operations in India in June 2007 with the start of production at an acquired brewery at Paonta Sahib in Himachal Pradesh.
