International summit-cum-exhibition on food processing on Nov 5 at Delhi

The ministry of food processing industries (MoFPI) and ASSOCHAM (Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India) will be organising Summit-cum-Exhibition on Food Processing Agribusiness and Cold Chain on November 5, 2012, at Le-Meridien Hotel, New Delhi.

The main objective of the summit would be to focus on processed food, agribusiness and cold chain with a view to increase business opportunities and investments. To enable this, the core agenda of the summit would be to provide an enabling platform for networking to strengthen food processing and cold chain sectors; to understand demand side trends in future food market; to update business world in general and delegates in particular about emerging opportunities for investment in the food processing sector in India; to share and learn best practices in product and process innovations and to enumerate policy recommendations for the state and central governments through a dialogue process.

The focus areas at the summit would be divided in 3 categories – Agribusiness: Emerging food basket and value space creation; Inclusion of farmer in food value addition chain; Promoting crop base value addition chain; and Collection and supply models for farmers.

Food Processing: Attracting investments; Technology innovation and adoption; Strengthening trade linkages; Packaging, safety testing and regulations; and Regulatory and policy issues.

Cold Chain: Align with global supply chains and emerging issues in cold chain management; Upgrade with latest trends and technologies in cold chain; and Explore private equity and venture capital investments in cold chain.

The speakers would include Gerry Ritz, minister of agriculture, Canada; Dr Ramkrishna Kusmariya, minister for farmer welfare and agriculture development, Government of Madhya Pradesh; Rakesh Kacker, secretary, MoFPI, Government of India; Sanjeev Chopra, joint secretary, ministry of agriculture, Government of India; K J R Burman, food safety commissioner, Delhi; and Gerald Cavalier, CEO, Cemafroid - French independent expertise on cold chain. Tariq Anwar, minister of state for agriculture & food processing is likely to be present.

More than 25 companies from Canada, France and many other parts of the world have confirmed participation.
