Carlsberg India, a subsidiary of Danish brewing company Carlsberg, has acquired its sixth brewery in Dharuhera, Haryana.
Located 200 meters off the Delhi-Jaipur highway, the brewery with a current production capacity of 150 KHL, has the potential of further volume expansion to about 500 KHL, and will commence operations in the first quarter of 2013.
The acquisition, which is an important strategic decision, is expected to make the company more competitive in the Indian beer industry.
Carlsberg India managing director Soren Lauridsen said the acquisition and setting up of the district Patna brewery reaffirms the company's commitment to India.
"The ambition of Carlsberg India is to be the fastest growing beer company, by offering premium international quality brands to the Indian consumers," Lauridsen added.
The company also has started the construction of its seventh brewery in Bihar, which will be completed by end of fourth quarter of 2013.
The facility will brew all brands of Carlsberg India's portfolio including, Carlsberg, Carlsberg Elephant, Tuborg Green, Tuborg Strong and Palone 8.
Carlsberg India, commenced commercial operations in 2007, currently has breweries in Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh.
