Dina for Agricultural Investments (DinaFarms), an Egypt-based dairy producer, has received 1,000 milking cows from the US, as part of expansion plans to maximize its raw milk production capacity.
In September 2012, the company had secured an EGP92m ($15m) syndicated loan facility to finance civil work, machinery and purchase 2,000 cows to raise milk production from the current 60,000 tons per annum to 80,000 tons per annum in 2013.
The company, a portfolio company of Citadel Capital's multi-category agriculture and consumer foods platform - Gozour, is expected to receive the remaining 1,000 cows by the third quarter of 2013.
Gozour livestock business managing director Dr Mohamed Waeer told AMEinfo.com: "The significant increase in our herd of milking cows, which is expected to reach approximately 8,000 cows by the end of 2013, is part of a comprehensive dairy expansion plan that also includes the construction of new international-standard milking stations to accommodate the new cows."
Gozour integrated dairy business CEO Hanee Afia told the website: "We are confident that the increase in our dairy capacity will not only benefit our own manufacturing operation but also the market as a whole which continues to suffer from an undersupply of milk."
DinaFarms supplies fresh milk and related products to local and regional producers of processed dairy products. In January 2011, the company introduced a single-serve pack in addition to its family size flagship pack.
