An Oprah Winfrey frozen organic vegetable line? It hasn't appeared in stores yet. Maybe it never will. But the talk show host has filed trademark applications for them and a whole bunch of other organic products.
During her 25-year talk show run, Winfrey has pushed 283 "favorite things:" products she handed out in her annual audience scream-a-thon each holiday season. They have ranged from favorite books and CDs to BlackBerrys to, famously, shiny new cars for all 275 hyperventilating audience members.
She has also promoted favorite foods and beauty products, like Fat Witch Brownies and Carol's Daughter makeup. Both companies reported huge surges in interest as a result. Patricia Helding of Fat Witch told ABC News that her phone didnt stop ringing for six months. Lisa Price, founder of Carols Daughter, said her site "went from four visitors to 17,000 within 10 seconds."
So, Winfrey can sell other people's products. But what about her own? Oprah's Farm LLC, a business registered in Hawaii last March, registered several trademarks for organic products with the US Patent and Trademark Office Oct. 29, including Oprah's Organics brand organic salad dressing, sauces, beverages, frozen vegetables, soups and snack dips. There were also applications for a number of beauty care products, from lip balm to hair care.
