We love Heinz Ketchup as much as anyone, but we'll be the first to admit that the condiment can be, well, a little boring. It's as if Heinz was reading our minds, because they're rolling out a limited edition variety, "Heinz Tomato Ketchup blended with Real Jalapenos."
The website Brand Eating tells us that the stuff won't be on select shelves until January of 2013, but Heinz's Facebook page is selling a few bottles from November 26 to December 7. It's calling the promotion "12 Days of Jalapeno Ketchup." The regular retail price will be $2.49, but the bottles will cost $4.99 through Facebook. Order two to five bottles, though, and you get a free one.
There's no word how different "Heinz Tomato Ketchup blended with Real Jalapenos" will taste from another zingy Heinz product already on the market, "Heinz Hot & Spicy Ketchup," which is made with Tabasco sauce. We also have to wonder if the move is at all inspired by another popular spicy condiment flavored with chili, Sriracha.
Investors.com does, however, offers more insight into its flavor:
New Heinz Tomato Ketchup Blended with Real Jalapeño is the same thick, rich tomato ketchup that consumers love, with one ingredient added – real jalapeños. The unique, hot flavor is perfect for adding a kick to breakfast favorites like eggs and hash browns, or spicing up classics like burgers and fries.
In a press release, Eric Dahmer, senior brand manager for Heinz, said he believes the product's holiday-timed released makes the stuff "the perfect stocking stuffer for the friend or family member who likes to add a little kick to their meals.”
