United Coffee UK & Ireland, the owner of British brand Lyons’ coffee, has acquired Corby-based specialist roaster Andronicas, as part of plan to further increase its share in the independent sector.

Andronicas is specialized in gourmet coffees for independent coffee shops, delicatessens and high-end retailers.

The company will become an independent brand under the United Coffee umbrella.

United Coffee UK & Ireland managing director Elaine Higginson said: "Andronicas will help us to deliver bespoke blends and niche products in small volumes."

Andrew Knight of Andronicas said: "We'll be able to take our hand-crafted coffee to a wider customer base, thanks to United Coffee's scale and unrivalled expertise in growing coffee businesses."

Japanese coffee company UCC Holdings had acquired United Coffee from the private equity fund CapVest Equity Partners in April 2012.

With presence in the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, France, Germany and the UK, United Coffee employs more than 1,000 people and roasts over 60,000 tons of coffee per year.
