California-based Paul Hobbs Winery, along with a private equity investment firm GI Partners, has purchased Tourmaline Vineyard in Napa Valley.
Located in the Coombsville American Viticultural Area (AVA), the vineyard has a total area of 90 acres among which 63 acres are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot vines. The vineyard has been a source for providing grapes to wineries such as Cardinale, Merus, Chappellet and Paul Hobbs Winery.
The purchase of Tourmaline Vineyard is the first in Napa Valley and joins Paul Hobbs' other Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vineyards in Russian River Valley including the Katherine Lindsay estate vineyard in Sebastopol, reported WineBusiness.com.
Paul Hobbs Winery founder Paul Hobbs told the website that Tourmaline vineyard is known for producing quality fruits.
"I like Coombsville due to the distinctive soils, including Guenoc rock outcrop complex and Sobrante loam, and reputation for growing quality Cabernet Sauvignon. I'm honored to bring the Tourmaline Vineyard into our family of vineyards," he added.
