Core Tip: Bar Harbor Seafood, Orlando, Fla., completed an 18,000-square-foot expansion to its existing 21,000-square-foot seafood facility.
Constructed by Orlando, Fla.-based design-build contractor H. J. High Construction, the expansion includes the latest in cold storage design and was completed in six months. Plus, the additional room for storage and the increased operational efficiencies in product handling will add 10 jobs in receiving and warehousing.

“This expansion helps us meet the growing needs of our customers with a larger product inventory, quicker loading and distribution and new inventory management systems,” says Jeff Hazell, founder and president. “Coupled with H. J. High Construction’s expertise in food distribution and cold storage facilities, we were able to create a first-class facility.”

The new addition features a 0° freezer, new 40° cold dock, vestibule, receiving office and two state-of-the-art, live lobster float tanks in a separate holding room, which are said to be two of the largest in Florida. The project also includes four new dock pits/levelers with insulated doors. Sitework includes 41 parking spaces, a trucking area with heavy-duty concrete and asphalt pavement and new site lighting.

Bar Harbor Seafood remained operational during the entire course of construction.
