Belgian company Agrafresh, mostly known as a supplier of salads and lettuce varieties, has expanded its assortment with pasteurized vegetables. "These are vegetables steamed by new techniques, with a much longer shelf life," says Jeroen Samyn. "Currently, we offer the new products to our existing customers, but we will introduce the steamed vegetables to new markets as well. A major reason to add this product to our catalogue is the fact that fresh produce usually has a much shorter shelf life. These new products have a shelf life of 90 days and this gives us the opportunity to expand export. "
100% natural
“So far customers seem to like the new pasteurized vegetables,” Samyn continues. “Some of the major buyers are foodservice companies, and we’re trying to appeal to retailers as well. Having a product that is 100% natural really helps.”
Agrafresh recently relocated business to an entire new office and processing plant in Pittem. “Our rapid expansion necessitated the relocation. All our products are handled on the new lot. Also, by moving closer to our own growers we manage to shorten the line of production.”
The company started business in 2002 and has since grown exponentially. “We employ over 65 people now. Initially we just supplied Aldi with some dishes. Now we offer 300 different products to over 60 satisfied customers. Last year we increased revenue with 25%, something we will try to replicate this year.”
Agrafresh is present at SIRHA, stand 4C-28. This fair takes place in Lyon 26/30 January.
