Academy Award-winning director Francis Ford Coppola, who won Best Director in 1975 for “The Godfather: Part II,” is positioning two of his wines for consumers’ Oscar-themed parties.
Geyersville, Calif.-based Francis Ford Coppola Winery offers its Director’s and Director’s Cut wines, which it says are suitable to complement at-home parties on the night of the 85th Academy Awards. The 2010 Director’s Cabernet Sauvignon showcases Sonoma County’s character and style with tannins achieved by aging the wine in lightly toasted American and French oak barrels, the company says. The 2011 Director’s Cut Chardonnay represents Russian River Valley style with its fruit flavor and oak and spice notes, it says. Both wines have a suggested retail price of $21. These wines also are available in the Awards Season Basket, which features both wines, gourmet popcorn and games, and retails for $77.95.
Movie fans also can play along with the Oscars telecast through the winery’s Coppola Oscar Bingo, which features 10 downloadable and printable game boards that highlight Oscar moments and at-home wine tasting activities for Oscar parties.
