Bruichladdich Distillery, a Scotland-based producer of Scotch whiskey, has doubled the annual production capacity of single malt Scotch whiskey to 1.5 million liters to meet the growing demand for the spirit across the world.
The distillery, which has equipment that dates back to 1881, is designed to produce this volume of spirit.
Bruichladdich Distillery manager Allan Logan said they were careful not to put the equipment under too much stress.
"She works rather slowly and we are determined not to change that - so we have politely asked her to work longer hours," Logan added.
The distillery was purchased by the French spirits giant Remy Cointreau in 2012, under which the distillery was able to expand production and fulfill the demand for its range of single malt Scotch whiskies.
Apart from Scotch whiskies, the distillery also produces The Botanist, an artisanal gin that is distilled using 22 Islay botanicals sourced from the island, and also bottles all its range at the distillery.
