Core Tip: Huercasa has innovated products such as chicory, cooked and peeled beetroot, or the most original creation, cooked and vacuum-packed corn on the cob。
vacuum-packed cornHuercasa was established as a family business 34 years ago and quickly began to innovate with products such as chicory, cooked and peeled beetroot, or the most original creation, cooked and vacuum-packed corn on the cob, a product which, according to its Sales Manager, Carlos Olmos, many other firms tried to copy.

The main characteristic of this product is its flavour. "The flavour remains unaltered for months thanks to a particular processing system we call FreshTaste. Due to its well-tested vacuum packing, consumers can enjoy a delicious corn on the3 cob anywhere at any time of the year without any loss in flavour or texture," he affirms.

"We were originally corn producers, but as consumption increased, we found it necessary to specialise ourselves in our process and rely on the area's good growers, so we developed an expertise that guarantees raw materials of a fantastic quality. We currently collaborate with growers from various parts of Spain."

The product can be consumed in many ways, but always on the cob.

"It is very common for consumers to use them at barbecues, especially in central Europe and Scandinavia. However, in other areas they prefer them boiled, and our packaging is just as beneficial when using a double boiler," he explains.

For their promotion, Huercasa organises various events, especially for children, where they prepare barbecues with corn and other vegetables.

Cooked beetroot

The advantage of packaged beetroot over the fresh product is that it is a vegetable which is usually cooked before consumption.

"This means that beetroot produced by Huercasa, cooked and vacuum-packed and 100% natural, not only retains the flavour of freshly cooked beetroot, but also considerably reduces the amount of time consumers must spend in the kitchen, taking into account that preparation, cooking, cleaning, etc. is a laborious process," explains Carlos Olmo. "Besides, it is also a very affordable product."

According to Carlos, the consumption of cooked beetroot has notably increased in Spain in recent years "and continues to grow in shorter steps."

Nowadays, after the success of its specialisation in processing, the firm exports its products to over 25 countries. "Given the lack of popularity of these products in Spain, the firm decided to start exporting, developing a strategy which would help Huercasa become a leading firm in about half of the world," stressed Carlos Olmos.

These products can be found in both central markets and supermarkets.
