US-based Tyson Foods is recalling approximately 127,000 pounds of uncooked breaded chicken tenderloins and uncooked chicken tenderloin fritter products as they contain soy that is not mentioned on the product label.
According to the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the products being recalled include 20lb. packs of 'SPARE TIME Uncooked Chicken Tenderloin Fritters' bearing a case code of '7083861'; and 10lb. packs of 'Tyson UNCOOKED, BREADED CHICKEN TENDERLOINS' bearing a case code of '7083928.'
Both the products bear the establishment number 'P-5839' inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The products were manufactured between 1 March 2013 and 27 March 2013 and shipped to food service operators across the nation for further distribution to restaurants and institutions.
The cartons feature a package code of '0603TYLxxxx', '0663TYLxxxx', '0733TYLxxxx', '0773TYLxxxx', '0813TYLxxxx', or '0863TYLxxxx' under the product code where as the xxxx represents a time stamp.
The recall was initiated by Tyson Foods and occurred as a result of a label change after reformulation of the product.According to the company, a marinade ingredient that included an incorrect sub-ingredient (concentrated soy protein) was not declared on the label.
FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions associated with the consumption of these products. People concerned about a reaction are advised to contact a health care provider.
This recall has been classified as Class I, which indicates a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.
