Wegmans Food Markets and The Fresh Market plan to sample organic products and host other events for Earth Day this weekend.

At all Wegmans locations on April 20, customers will be able to try fresh organic foods like strawberries, Irish salmon, cream cheese and Wegmans raw nuts. Kids can fill out a bingo card by locating organic products in the store and redeem completed cards for an organic juice box.

The first 300 customers at each store who bring in a bag filled with clean plastic bags will receive a coupon for a Wegmans reusable bag.

“We’re always looking for new ways to reduce, reuse and recycle our resources,” Jason Wadsworth, Wegmans’ sustainability coordinator, said in a statement. “We have a responsibility toward future generations to take steps to protect our world today. We want to share with customers what we’re doing and invite them to join us on this journey, so we’ve created posters around the store to show the impact that some of our practices had in 2012.”

Individual Wegmans stores may incorporate other activities. The Earth Day Celebrate Organic events take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

All Fresh Market locations will have Earth Day Sampling Events on April 20 and April 21 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Highlighted items include local, regional and organic products like kale chips and The Fresh Market Organic coffees.

The retailer also will offer two-day sales on select organic products.
