The prices of certain hawker food items have remained the same, according to a survey by the Consumers Association of Singapore and Ngee Ann Polytechnic's School of Business & Accountancy.
A total of 541 hawker stalls were covered in the survey which was conducted in December 2012.
The survey focused on five common food items - chicken nasi briyani, chicken rice, plain roti prata, fishball noodles and mixed vegetable rice.
The survey looked at the mode price of the food items which is the price at which a large percentage of hawkers are charging for a specific type of food.
The survey results showed that the mode prices of the selected food items remained the same expect for two.
The mode price of fishball noodles increased 20 per cent to S$3.00 in 2012, from S$2.50 in 2011.
The mode price of mixed vegetable rice increased by 16 per cent to S$2.90 in 2012, from S$2.50 in 2011.
In 2012, the mode price of chicken nasi briyani was S$4.50; S$2.50 for chicken rice; and 80 cents for plain roti prata.
The survey results however showed that the percentage of hawkers selling chicken nasi briyani, chicken rice and plain roti prata at the mode price decreased in 2012 compared to 2011.
A higher percentage of hawkers sold these three food items above the mode prices in 2012 compared to 2011.
