It isn’t exactly new, but the British division of Danish frozen ethnic food producer Daloon has launched a range of meat-free foods. A UK trade journal, The Grocer, is treating it as a reaction to the horsemeat scandal, but it actually antedates that,
Daloon said in March, when it debuted the range, that it is hoping to capitalize on the growing meat reducer and vegetarian foods market with the launch of the Simply Meat Free range. The line includes six products including spicy bean burgers, vegetable burgers and a cheese and jalapeno crispbake.
"The launch of our new meat free range, represents a significant step forward for Daloon," said Managing Director Geoff Burgess in the March announcement. "The vegetarian and meat reducer market is showing major growth in the UK and is set to continue." The line is available through leading supermarkets, regional multiples, wholesalers and cash-and-carry stores.
