Dabur India, a FMCG company, has opened a $16m fruit-based beverage manufacturing plant at Yakadagala Estate, Kotadeniyawa in Mirigama, Sri Lanka.
This plant was constructed in collaboration with Board of Investment of Sri Lanka.
The new plant, which will be operated by Dabur Lanka, has a capacity to manufacture 280,000 cases of fruit-based beverages per month.
The beverage facility is equipped with new technology to monitor waste generation and constantly improve effluent waste treatment.
Dabur India chairman Ananda Burman was quoted by dailynews.lk as saying: "With this instigation being Dabur's first project in Sri Lanka, we foresee many more projects to come, thereby, promoting Dabur's brand and help the Srilankan economy in the long-run."
According to Sri Lanka Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa, the fruit producing farmers in the region will benefit from this new plant as measures are being taken to facilitate them to sell their produce to the factory.
Rajapaksa hopes that this new plant will also benefit by offering new jobs to the area. It is expected to generate around 75 direct and 100 indirect jobs.
