US-based household cleaning products manufacturer SC Johnson has unveiled the new Ziploc Brand Compostable Bags, which provide better storage solutions that help reduce landfill waste to make green choices without sacrificing food freshness.
According to the company, the new bags are designed for use in commercial composting facilities that accept food scraps and compostable bags.
SC Johnson global corporate affairs, communication and sustainability senior vice president Kelly Semrau said the company aims to make new household products that are better for the environment and future generations, as part of its sustainability efforts.
"The introduction of our new Ziploc® Brand Compostable Bags is an extension of that commitment and we are proud to make products that have a positive impact, without compromising the quality that our consumers expect," Semrau said.
The company noted that the launch of Ziploc Brand Compostable Bags helps to save plastic from ending up in landfills, while preserving freshness or convenience of food.
Ziploc Brand Compostable bags are available in three varieties including Ziploc Brand Compostable Sandwich Bags; Ziploc Brand Compostable Food Storage Bags; and Ziploc Brand Compostable Food Scrap Bags. All the three types of bags are certified compostable under ASTM D6400 by the Biodegradable Products Institute.
The bags are are not suitable for backyard composting as they are less efficient compared with commercial composting facilities, which are designed to ensure proper conditions for the ideal compost.
