France-based retail conglomerate Auchan Group, which forayed into India in 2012 under a franchisee agreement with Max Hypermarket of Landmark Group, has chalked out plans to open 12 to 15 stores per year in the country.
Auchan currently operates 13 hypermarkets in the country with Max Hypermarket.
As part of the expansion, Auchan recently opened a new outlet in Chennai. Occupying 5,800m² of retail space, the new store offers 18,000 food and non-food SKUs
A second store in Chennai is slated to open in near future. Further, Auchan plans to open six new outlets in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh states by 2013.
In addition, two new hypermarkets are slated to open in Bangalore
Auchan operates a global network of hypermarkets and supermarkets offering a wide array of food and non-food products.
It operates hypermarkets under Auchan, Awah, Alcampo, Jumbo, RT-Mart and Pau de acucar brands while operating supermarkets under Simply Market, A2Pas, Partisans du Gout and Atak labels.
As of December 2012, the retail group operated 678 hypermarkets and 786 supermarkets, besides managing 340 shopping centers in 12 countries.
