Casey's General Stores Inc. is moving its pizza program from a side venture to full-time status at its new Casey's Pizza Express location, set to open Aug. 1, according to a report by the Des Moines Register.
The company first began offering pizza delivery in April 2012 and has since expanded it to more than 225 stores.
The 1,600-square-foot Pizza Express store, located in the Water's Edge Shopping Center at 4420 E. University Ave. in Pleasant Hill, Iowa, will offer pizza (whole and by the individual slice), chicken wings, breadsticks, fountain drinks and a self-serve frozen yogurt bar, according to the news outlet.
"The demand for pizza in Pleasant Hill is very strong, and we wanted an alternative to serve the east side of Des Moines," said Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Bill Walljasper.
Casey's currently operates one convenience store and gas station in Pleasant Hill, and is building a second c-store on University Avenue. Casey's Pizza Express will offer the existing store some relief when it comes to its busy pizza business. It will not offer c-store products such as cigarettes, groceries or doughnuts.
"It will be a standalone pizza store without the other amenities," Walljasper said.
Last year, Casey's sold approximately 12 million whole pizza pies and 48 million slices. As of now, the company does not plan to open another Casey's Pizza Express.
