In 2008, Mexican Persian lime producers founded Compadres Produce; a company which, after being joined by other producers last year, was renamed as Campo del Mundo, a Rural Production Company whose exports are shipped to France and the United States and which is in the process of entering the Asian market. The society is responsible for both the sales and the production in Veracruz. All the producers have the GlobalGAP certification and are in the process of obtaining the HACCP and the BRC to be able to access the British market.
"As producers and traders, we observe that the prices paid to importers in Europe are dropping, standing approximately right now at around 5-6 Euro per box, when a month ago they reached 13-14 Euro," explains Erick Colorado, of Campo de Mundo. "This is mainly due to oversupply, as Brazil and Mexico are making more shipments."
The Brazilian produce is characterised by its higher juice content and paler colours, while the Mexican, although not as juicy, have a better appearance.
"The production right now has dropped a little as a result of rains, but next week the fruit's supply should increase and we also expect the quality to improve, as we will start with a new batch," affirms Erick.
For its second stage, Campo del Mundo plans to trade with avocados and mangoes from a new group of producers to make shipments to the Asian market, where there is great interest for them. This is the main reason why the firm will attend the next edition of the Asia Logistica fair, to take place between 4 and 6 September in Hong Kong.
