Walford and North Shropshire College has opened a new dairy - the RD Park Dairy Centre, at its Walford campus in Shropshire, UK.

This development marks the completion of the first phase of the £3.2m dairy. The dairy will go onstream over the next few days, with the second and final phase of construction scheduled to be completed by the end of 2013.

The RD Park Dairy Centre has been named after Walford's first Principal the late Don Park, reported Farminguk.com.

While Minshall Construction has taken up the construction, Fullwood has supplied the technology for the state-of-the art robotic parlor and a new herringbone parlor, which will function alongside the robot.

The new parlor will boost the milking capacity by 50% to 300 cows, allowing Walford Farm to operate as a commercial unit, while providing a good teaching resource for students.

College principal and chief executive Andrew Tyley said the new dairy makes a powerful statement about the college's confidence and commitment to the dairy industry and the role of Walford in training future generations of farmers

Construction on the dairy had started in December 2012. The next phase of construction works at Walford is already underway.
