Nestlé has inaugurated its expanded dairy facility in San Francisco de Macorís, Dominican Republic for the production of Carnation Evaporated Milk.
The company invested CHF12.9m ($13.3m) for the expansion which involved the installation of milk evaporation equipment for manufacturing Carnation Evaporated Milk.
Nestlé Dominican Republic head Claude Mamboury said that with this expansion, the company is reaffirming its confidence in the country, and its commitment to national milk production.
"We are strengthening our roots in San Francisco de Macorís. We are here to stay. Nestlé is a company that has always had a long-term perspective," Mamboury added.
The facility processes fresh milk which is collected from 44 milk collection centers in 11 provinces across the country. The company's purchase of milk nationally provides employment for about 4,500 people.
Nestlé has been present in the Dominican Republic over half a century and Carnation Milk has been produced at the San Francisco de Macorís facility since 1971.
The company operates second factory at MadreVieja, in San Cristóbal, which manufactures culinary products including Maggi brand products which are exported to the US and the Caribbean region.
