UK-based Associated Seafoods is planning to commence operations at its seafood processing facility in Buckie, north-east Scotland, by the end of August 2013.
The seafood processing plant features traditional kilns, a dedicated hot smoking area, and a facility to produce a new range of Scottish smoked salmon and cured products.
According to the company, a new crab processing area is already operational and is currently sourcing quality crab caught locally, while the dedicated langoustine processing section of the facility is slated for completion later this week.
Commenting on the development, Associated Seafoods managing director Victor West said that the Scottish provenance of the company's smoked salmon and shellfish will be one of the key drivers in developing new markets.
"All our salmon is 100% Scottish and only sourced from farms we work incredibly closely with and which practice the best standards of husbandry and care. In other words, our salmon is grown, harvested and smoked in Scotland," added West.
Currently, Associated Seafoods exports to 24 countries around the world with a supply base that includes customers in Europe, Mexico, the USA, Hong Kong and the Middle East.
