Export of vegetables from Ukraine over five months grew by 53% during this year. In total, over this time, Ukraine sent 134,000 tons of vegetables to foreign markets.
Export growth has been sponsored by high yields this year, plus the construction of greenhouses and new storage facilities, says Vitaliy Sabluk, director of economic development at the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry.
He stated that, during 2011-2012, 104 new vegetable storage sites have been constructed with a combined storage capacity of 0.5 million tonnes. Another 16 storage facilities are planned for the coming years.
Further plans are in place for the construction of greenhouses also.
