SCR, a Malaysian restaurant chain, is outlining plans to have 100 operational outlets across its markets over the next five years.

The chain intends to leverage its franchise unit for the expansion. The company has forayed into franchise business earlier in July 2012.

Through its franchisee model, the eatery chain is hopeful of opening an average of 15 outlets per year. Meanwhile, nine shops are to be launched during the second half of 2013.

SCR franchising and strategic planning general manager Johnny Leo told The Borneo Post that the company mulls to have 17 new stores by 2013-end in addition to the current 40 outlets under operation throughout Sarawak, Sabah and Brunei.

The expansion is in line with SCR's strategy to increase its regional presence instead of just focussing on East Malaysia.

SCR managing director Johnson Tan told the website, "We expect that the franchising programme will have a lot of response in coming years.

"This will give us the motivation to expand faster into the new market especially in Asean countries as these countries are rice based which suits our kind of business."
