Traditions, a recallPearl, Miss., establishment, is recalling 2,486 pounds of frozen chicken meals because of misbranding and an undeclared allergen, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today. The products contain milk, a known allergen, which is not declared on the label.

The products subject to recall include:

A three-compartment tray containing “Lemon Pepper Chicken Breast Filet with Rib Meat Smoke Flavor Added / Mixed Vegetables / Basil and Garlic Fettuccine” bearing the establishment number “P-13850” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products were produced and packaged on Oct. 5, 2012, Dec 19, 2012 and Jan. 28, 2013

The products were distributed to food service institutions nationwide.

The problem was discovered by the firm during a routine label review. Milk is a subingredient of butter flavoring used in the product. The problem occurred after a change in formulation which resulted in milk being omitted from the label.

FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a health care professional.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.

Media with questions about the recall should contact Greg Shoemaker, Executive Vice President, at (601) 664-3107. Consumers should contact Sherry Goodwin, Customer Service Representative, at (601) 420-8847.
