The Belgian company Demargo has been specialising in the export of fruit and vegetables. Recently the decision was made to expand with a new storage facility. Owner Guy de Meyer says that the current storage warehouse has become too small. "A lot of fruit and vegetables are bought every day, and we needed more space to stock these products and the packaging material. There was no room to expand any more at our current location, so the new storage warehouse has been built around 500 metres from here. The size of the new warehouse is around 4,080 square metres."

Taking good care of the customers

"In recent years we have noticed that customers are asking for different packaging more and more. We now have more space to package our products the way the customer wants. We want to do what we do well, and we grasped the opportunity to realise this in a large space with both hands. We have gone through a lot of growth in recent years and have remained stable in the past year. The focus is now on keeping customers and we want to continue to take good care of them. We supply to all of Europe, France being the main buyer. We try to be active in every country, and certainly to have a number of good customers in each. This is enough in Eastern European countries, as the trade there is really a challenge."

More under the Demargo brand

"Besides packaging under Flandria we also market a lot under our own brand. More and more clients are specifically asking for products from the Demargo brand." At the moment Demargo is in a quieter period as far as trade is concerned, although the competition is quite fierce. "Especially in tomatoes, there is a lot of production all over Europe right now and this has caused mass destruction. And still the prices remain around the minimum. The tomato trade is like a fair. The season started pretty well, but this period is very extreme. It has been going on for over a week now and may be as much again before this drama is resolved."
