The UK’s first wine-only auction website is set to launch in September.
Fat Grape, which has been set up by Alex Davenport Jones, will offer round-the-clock wine auctions and a next-day delivery service.
The auctions will feature anything from a single bottle to cases of fine wine, and offers a user-friendly, efficient platform on which the trade and private customers can buy and sell wine.
Davenport Jones predicts customers will purchase most lots for between 10%-30% below market value.
He said: “It wouldn’t surprise me at all to see Dom Pérignon being bought at £60-£70 rather than £100-plus.
“I want to make more people aware of the plethora of wines available to them. Our Fat Grape customers can buy and sell wine in any quantity and pay the lowest fees on or offline.”
The site – fatgrape.co.uk – will be accepting wines for auction from September 10 and will go live on September 24.
