Lim Hak-tae, a professor of the Department of Bio-health Technology at Kangwon National University, has become chairman of the Global Potato Network (GPN).
The network said his inauguration ceremony was held last Thursday.
The GPN is a nongovernmental organization established to eradicate hunger by cultivating food crops, mainly potatoes, and building farming infrastructure.
In his inaugural speech, Lim promised to strengthen cooperation between academia and research corporations to innovate potato farming.
He received his bachelor’s degree from Kangwon National University in 1985, and his master’s degree from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania in 1987. He received his doctorate from Pennsylvania State University in 1990.
The GPN signed a memorandum of understanding with Rwanda earlier this year to expand into wider potato research fields.
