Diageo has announced that it is to launch a new Baileys variant called Chocolate Luxe, which will utilize real Belgian chocolate. According to the drinks maker, the liqueur, one of its 'most innovative products for a decade', will fuse alcohol with chocolate in such a way that 'delivers the multi-sensory experience of chocolate in a glass'.
Created by Anthony Wilson, principal scientist and son of one of Baileys Original Irish Cream creators Steve Wilson, this latest innovation in drinks alchemy has been three years in the making. The alcohol content in the new Baileys variant has been lowered by 1.3% (now standing at 15.7%) to complement - rather than overpower - 'the sweet, smoky essence of the chocolate', according to Diageo.
The new variety of the popular cream liqueur is available exclusively at luxury retailer Harvey Nichols from 12 August, and nationwide from October, retailing for £16.99 in 50cl bottles only.
