Monitoring project examined the use of additives in self-monitoring firms realization. The project results suggest that foods produced in Finland was mainly used for the authorized additives and additive amounts were below the maximum regulatory limits.

More than 60 percent of the companies involved in the implementation of self-monitoring of additives was rated as "good" or "minor flaws". A third of the companies was, however, correct use of additives in self-control. The most common deficiencies in the adequacy of in-house control, additive mixtures purity requirements, marking and labeling, as well as information relating to the use of additives in the amounts related to the recipe calculations. Municipal authorities issued calls to correct deficiencies and oversaw their implementation.

Evira carried out together with local and regional government agencies, the food authorities in 2012, a national surveillance project to evaluate the use of additives in food companies, the implementation of self-monitoring. Additive inspections were made to 56 food companies in different parts of Finnish. There were, as well as small, medium, and Finland's largest food companies.

Additive The aim of the project was to strengthen the local food and health inspectors' expertise in the use of food additives and its monitoring, as well as to inform the legislative requirements for food businesses.

Presentation of the results of food control is part of the Welcome! Environmental health visibility days, the main event held in Espoo Sello shopping center on Friday, 08.30.2013 at 10-18. The event allows Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes), the Food Safety Authority Evira, and the social and health permit and (Valvira) want to bring out the everyday living environment, health and safety.
