Dairy Farmers of Ontario (DFO) is geared up to commence the construction of the $25m Livestock Research and Innovation Centre Dairy Facility at the Elora Research Station.
The proposed research facility a joint venture between Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food, the Agricultural Research Institute of Ontario (ARIO), the Livestock Research Innovation Corporation, the University of Guelph and Ontario dairy industry stakeholders.
DFO claims that the dairy research facility will help ensure Ontarians receive quality and innovative dairy products.
Operated by the University of Guelph under its partnership agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food and the Ministry of Rural Affairs, the facility will address the research, education and training needs and priorities of the dairy sector.
DFO Board chair Bill Emmott said that a stronger dairy sector benefits all Ontarians.
"We are thrilled that the Ontario government recognizes the importance of the dairy industry in the province by showing its support for this world-class research facility," added Emmott.
DFO has invested around $1m and is calling industry stakeholders to demonstrate their commitment to the industry by becoming a partner in this facility, in a move to raise an additional $4m.
