For its 2013 fiscal year, ended June 30, 2013, Firmenich posted sales of CHF 2.89 billion, an increase of +7.0% in local currencies and +10.0% in Swiss Francs, its reporting currency. The company recorded increases in all geographic regions, as it vigorously pursued growth opportunities in both developed and high-growth markets and sharpened its focus on innovation.
Firmenich continued to strengthen and deepen its global presence during the year, opening a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility near Jakarta, Indonesia, as part of its Flavor encapsulated product strategy and in Dubai, U.A.E., the company increased its footprint by investing in additional cutting-edge laboratories, giving it greater creation capabilities to develop tailored solutions for its clients across the Middle East and the broader region ranging from Africa to India.
The company also launched its 8th annual independently validated Sustainability Report. In the last twelve months of its fiscal year, the company improved its industry leading safety performance by 33%, its global product quality by 17% and improved performance in 7 of its 8 environmental indicators. At the World Corporate Social Responsibility Congress in Mumbai India, Firmenich received the Sustainability Leadership Award for “Best Project Collaboration” for our Base of the Pyramid work in India. In Haiti, the company’s work in supporting vetiver farmers advanced when it officially opened a school for over 500 children in the village of Débouchette.
The Firmenich Group continued to invest approximately 10 percent of its annual turnover in innovation, including new ingredients and the continuous improvement of production processes. Determined to remain the leader in innovation, Firmenich also filed 30 new patent applications during the year.
