Carrots are being bought by all age groups and in all regions in Germany. But not all households buy as much, as announced on the German website Proplanta.de. An average German household bought about 8.5 kg in 2012. That is about 105 carrots.

Young people eat little fresh vegetables compared to other age groups. Young single households buy, according to the German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI) research, on average 45% less fresh vegetables than other households. With carrots, however, the quantity bought is only one third less than with other households. Young couples without children, on the contrary buy more carrots than an average household, but as far as fresh vegetables are concerned they also still buy about 10% less than an average household.

Families with children are actually the largest users of carrots. Families with school going children buy almost 50% more carrots than an average German household. Often children are not very keen on vegetables, but carrots are extraordinarily popular with them. With older families the quantity of carrots bought is again a lot less. And although pensioners are part of the group of largest users of fresh vegetables, of carrots only normal quantities are bought.
