Core Tip: On Monday 28 October a new online wine retailing site from UK supermarket Asda will go live.
Called The asdaWine Shop, the grocer’s upcoming web-based store will list 200 new wines in addition to 300 of the supermarket’s current Extra Special and branded lines.

Similar to Tesco, which allows customers to buy wine in any quantity with their groceries at Tesco.com, or shop from a larger range of wines at Tesco Wine by the Case, Asda will retain its wine offer on asda.com and use The Wine Shop for a broader range of wines sold in quantities of six bottles or more.

Currently, 5% of Asda’s wine sales are done online, and the supermarket intends to double that proportion within the next two years.

The range on offer will include Hardy's Eileen shiraz 2004, Cono Sur 20 Barrels and 'quirkier' wines from smaller producers to, including the Portuguese Conde de Vimioso 2011 and Fossil 2012.

Brands which will be exclusive to the online store include the Devil's Collection red and White wine blends from Casillero del Diablo. The wines have been sourced from suppliers including Bibendum and Enotria.

Asda intends to expand the range of wines listed on The Wine Shop to 800 plus by September next year, more than the 600 available in-store or on asda.com
