Core Tip: Strong sales growth in emerging markets and the sale of a business in Turkey helped boost earnings for Spanish discounter Dia in the third quarter.
On MondDiaay, Dia posted a 2.5% rise in third quarter sales to €2.91 billion as business did well in crisis-hit Spain and emerging markets.

Adjusted net profit rose 4.5% to €58.3 million from July to September, excluding capital gains from the sale of a Turkish business in April.

In April, Dia and local conglomerate Sabanci Holding sold their business in Turkey to food giant Yildiz Holding.

"We remain confident in our ability to achieve our targets for 2013, and the hard day-to-day work of our teams allows us to be optimistic about our potential in the mid-term," said CEO Ricardo Curras.

At the end of September, Dia operated 7,182 stores, totalling an impressive 112 net openings in the quarter.

The Dia group also announced yesterday that it is to launch a new "Clarel" branded chain, which will specialize in bodycare and household products.

The Spanish retailer will reform 1,130 Sheckler stores that currently operate in Spain and Portugal in this Clarel roll-out.

The new store format will focus on selling products for personal care categories such as health and beauty, as well as household products and cleaning. Bonté will be the exclusive brand from Clarel with which previously existed store remaining, such as Baby Smile, Basic Cosmetics and AS.
