Diageo is expanding its luxury spirits portfolio in India as the company focuses on its premium liquor segment to strengthen its presence in the market.
As part of the plan, the liquor company is set launch a limited edition variant of its premium blended Scotch brand - Johnnie Walker Blue Label, The Economic Times reported.
Created by UK luxury house Alfred Dunhill, the new product will be available for more than INR28,000 ($447.7) per bottle.
Diageo's plan to focus on premium liquor segment comes on heels of the company taking a controlling stake in United Spirits (USL) that has been dominating the Indian spirit market in volumes.
Diageo India managing director Abanti Sankaranarayanan was quoted by the publication as saying that the company has made a conscious choice to win in segments that are fast growing and have attractive profit pools.
"Our segments won't translate into huge volume market share but that's a conscious choice we have made," Sankaranarayanan said.
