Core Tip: Digby Fine English Sparkling Wine has developed a new, elegant gift box for its sparkling wine range.
Digby Fine English SSparkling Wineparkling Wine has developed a new, elegant gift box for its sparkling wine range. The packaging was designed by agency Big Fish and was produced by Boxes and Packaging using a combination of Smurfit Kappa’s T-Flute Microflute corrugated board and Celloglas decorative finishes, including Cellotouch Lamination, embossing and a gold foil pattern.

Richard Revell, Technical Sales Manager at Smurfit Kappa, commented “The Smurfit Kappa T-Flute microflute corrugated board offers revolutionary characteristics in terms of exceptional strength whilst remaining lightweight at only 400gsm (880 microns) offering a perfect packaging solution for bottles of wine and/or spirits, due to its enhanced protective nature.”

Each box was printed using 4 colour process plus a special colour, creating coral and sage green versions, which were softened with a Cellotouch lamination finish, leaving a luminous matt effect on the colours.

The two versions were a 2009 Vintage Rose Brut and a 2009 Reserve Brut, both sold in Selfridges. 1250 boxes were printed in the two kinds.

Trevor Clough, CEO of Digby Fine English, commented, “We looked at various Celloglas finishing combination options and chose finishes for a luxurious, distinctively English character.”

Trevor added “We’ve had lots of positive feedback about the uniqueness of the packaging design. We really feel it communicates our brand values, expressing Englishness, refinement, courage and curiosity.”

Richard Gillgrass, Managing Director of Celloglas, commented, “We really enjoy working on creative projects like this where it is possible to raise the bar within the brand’s brief.”
