Italian drinks giant Gruppo Campari has agreed to completely acquire Canadian spirits company Forty Creek Distillery (FCD) in a deal worth C$185.6m.
The move marks the company's foray into the growing Canadian whiskey business.
The acquisition includes the complete portfolio of FCD including stocks, the distillery and manufacturing facilities and a Hospitality Center located in Grimsby, Ontario.
The addition of FCD will allow Gruppo Campari to further bolster its position in Canada and the US.
FCD founder and whiskey maker John Hall said that this transaction will further support Forty Creek's vision to produce unique, quality, handcrafted, Canadian-made spirits.
Gruppo Campari CEO Bob Kunze-Concewitz said, "Via the entry to the large and growing Canadian Whisky segment this acquisition further increases our exposure to the highly attractive brown spirits category whilst continuing to enhance our premium portfolio."
FCD's business structures and processes in Canada will not be influenced by the transaction.
Its brand portfolio includes whiskey, vodka, brandy, rum and liqueurs, with Forty Creek Whisky as its core brand.
