Poland is consolidating its hold on supplies of pears to Russia according to data given by the Russian Statistical Office.
From July 2013 to January 2014, Polish supplies of pears reached record volumes of 29 thousand tons. This an increase of 6% compared to the same time last year.
This good fortune seems to be continuing into 2014 as well. As of February 1, 2014, stocks stood around 12,000 tons, while they totalled just around 1,000 tons the year before. As a result, estimates for Polish pear stock is currently at a high level.
Conference pears account for the most part of the stocks in Poland with the share of 83%.
Such a sharp year-on-year increase in the stocks is connected with higher production of pears in the country. WAPA analysts estimated Poland's pear production at 65,000 tons in the season 2013/14, an increase of 44% year-on-year and 39% higher than average over the past 5 years.
With this increase in production, Poland has now exported 100 tons more than Belgium and is the second largest supplier of pears to Russian Federation.
