Almeria province has been named Spain’s No. 1 exporter of fruit and vegetables for last year, according to data released by the Foreign Trade Institute (ICEX).

Almeria exported 1,817.42 million kilos of fresh produce over the course of 2013.

This accounted for 38.33% of the country’s total fruit and vegetables exports i.e. 4,741.10 million kilos.

Spain’s second largest exporter was Murcia with 1,123.33 million kilos - 23.69% of the country’s total fresh produce exports figure.

In third place was Valencia, having shipped 421.12 million kilos of fresh produce or 8.88% of the total amount.

The total value of all exports was recorded at €10,769.85 million.

This translated into average pricing of 90 cents per kilo for all fresh horticultural items shipped.

Regarding prices for fruit and vegetables, Almeria province obtained the best prices with an average of 92 cents per kilo.

Its overall revenue was revealed to be €2,028.36 million for the year.

This strong performance was followed by Murcia, averaging 0.89 euro per kilo and €2,104.08 million in total.

In third place came Valencia with an average of 0.80 euro per kilo and overall revenue of €2,279.66 million.
