Poles imported 26.7 million bottles of Scotch whisky last year, which represents a 39 percent growth year-on-year, the highest among world’s biggest whisky importers, according to the Scotch Whisky Association.
Overall, Poland placed 11th in the ranking of biggest whisky consumers, five spots higher than year before. Over the last decade, whisky consumption in Poland increased 10-times. France remains the world’s biggest whisky importer in the world with 177.8 million bottles sold there, the US is second with 127.3 million bottles.
According to experts quoted by Polish daily Rzeczpospolita, Poles are more keen to consume whisky each year as they become richer and copy trends from western Europe where whisky is very popular. According to International Wine & Spirit Research, Poland’s whiskey market (which includes both Scotch whisky and whiskey made elsewhere) has grown 10 percent annually for the past decade and over the next five years it will grow by 8 percent each year.
