Extremely efficient whilst sSEALPACaving on a labelling unit – consisting of a servo-driven tray denester with double magazine and a flexible traysealer with innovative catch weight system, SEALPAC, together with line specialist Marel, presented a full line solution for efficient packaging of fresh poultry at Interpack 2014.

Servo-driven SEALPAC A7 in stainless steel execution

Centrepiece of the complete packaging line at IFFA 2014 is the extremely flexible and servo-driven SEALPAC A7 traysealer, which is particularly suitable for packaging a wide range of products in varying quantities. This reliable and all-round traysealer processes all sealable materials whilst achieving outputs up to 100 trays per minute (depending on tray type and application). The SEALPAC A7 traysealer is also known for its extremely efficient use of energy.

SEALPAC’s latest generation of traysealers can be completely executed in stainless steel, as well as be supplied with smart tip-up protection covers, which not only save space, but also provide easy access in case of maintenance or cleaning. When it comes to frequent format and product changes, the SEALPAC A7 traysealer is equipped with a number of special features. These include the possibility for double-sided tooling exchange using SEALPAC’s unique tooling trolley with integrated power supply connections. Also, the new tooling can be pre-heated in a special rack to achieve its operating temperature at the shortest possible notice. By using integrated chips with advanced RFID technology, the system automatically detects if the bottom tooling, top tooling and grippers match for running the next application.

Catch weight system – labelling without labels

The SEALPAC A7 is presented with a brand-new catch weight system, which has been developed in close cooperation with line specialist Marel. It supplies a sustainable and innovative system for weight-based pricing without the use of labels. All the necessary information, such as barcode, weight and price, are printed directly onto the top film of the pack whilst retaining common label optics. As such, the system saves on a labelling unit and large amounts of labels, hence providing a sustainable, efficient and space-saving solution. It also eliminates the concern of shifted or wrinkled labels at retail.

Check-weighing and inspection for optimal traceability

After sealing, each pack is weighed one more time and checked by SEALPAC‘s reliable packaging inspection unit PacInspect to see if the printed data match the registered weight to create a closed and error-free system. As the PacInspect unit, which also achieves flawless mechanical inspection, creates and stores a digital image of each inspected product, the system allows for maximum traceability. The line is completed with the powerful pick-and-place robot PacCollect, which fully automatically positions the sealed trays into their transport packaging.
