FrieslandCampina Foodservice in Nuenen is to expand its capacity by 1,500 m2, giving the plant a total surface area of 8,000 m2. As well as creating extra room for storage and recipe preparation, it will also pave the way for the installation of another production line.

This will enable FrieslandCampina to make products with a longer shelf life which can be supplied to food manufacturers outside the Netherlands and Belgium.

As well as making special whipped cream for the baking industry, the plant in Nuenen turns out cream and cream-based products, which are processed into fillings for cream cakes, custards, soups and sauces. Much of this is based on the requirements and wishes of buyers which are then translated into customer-specific recipes. The Nuenen-based branch currently has 120 employees. Approximately 85 work at the plant itself.

Jack Castelein, Director of FrieslandCampina Foodservice, said at the opening of the new plant: ‘This expansion was needed in response to anticipated growth over the coming years and to enable us to offer a full range of high quality products to customers outside our original core countries of the Netherlands and Belgium.’

FrieslandCampina Foodservice mainly supplies other companies in the food sector. At the beginning of 2014, FrieslandCampina Professional and FrieslandCampina Out-of-Home combined their activities to establish FrieslandCampina Foodservice, enabling them to respond more effectively to changes in the sector and the market. FrieslandCampina Foodservice is part of the Consumer Products Europe, Middle East & Africa business group. FrieslandCampina Foodservice employs a total workforce of 760.

The plant at Nuenen dates back to 1971, when the Van Ballegooijen family established a company producing fresh cream products for bakeries. The current facility at Gulberg 18 in Nuenen was built in 1985. In 1993, Coberco acquired the cream plant and after a series of mergers it became part of what is now FrieslandCampina.
