IngreVita, a new oil blend from Cargill, is a low-cost, easy-to-use ingredient that can help food manufacturers boost the nutritional benefits of their products. IngreVita, a blend of high oleic canola oil, fish oil and proprietary antioxidants, delivers long-chain omega-3s, essential nutrients that play an important role in heart health and brain development.

"Consumers tell us they are looking for added nutrition in the foods they buy, and there is a growing awareness of the benefits of omega-3s," said Kristine Sanschagrin, marketing manager of Specialty Seeds and Oil Cargill. "IngreVita is perfect for manufacturers looking to include long-chain omega-3s in their food and beverage formulations."

Because handling of the product is similar to canola oil, it is easy to use. It offers good shelf stability and does not introduce off-flavors.

EPA and DHA are essential polyunsaturated fatty acids that our bodies do not efficiently make. Average consumption of EPA and DHA in the United States is well below the American Heart Association's recommendation of 250-500 mg per day. For the general population, increased consumption of EPA and DHA through functional foods, as part of a balanced diet, could help to support health and wellness. "Numerous research studies have demonstrated the important role of EPA/DHA omega-3s for heart health and brain development. IngreVita can help make EPA and DHA more readily available to consumers," said Janet Bones, assistant vice president of research and development and quality assurance, Cargill.
