Keurig Green Mountain, Inc. has announced plans to open in Douglas County, Ga., its first plant dedicated to manufacturing pods for the new Keurig Cold platform. The company has purchased a 585,000-square-foot building and expects to invest $337 million in renovation over the next five years. With the new plant, Keurig expects to add 550 new jobs.
“Keurig’s new facility is a great addition to Georgia’s already diverse manufacturing industry and will provide many good jobs for our citizens,” said Nathan Deal, governor of Georgia. “The fact that the company has chosen to manufacture it new product line in Georgia is a testament to our skilled workforce and logistics infrastructure.”
Developed in a partnership with The Coca-Cola Co., the Keurig Cold in-home cold beverage system will use single-serve pods to dispense cold beverages, including carbonated drinks, enhanced waters, juice beverages, sports drinks and teas. The system is expected to debut in fiscal year 2015.
In addition to the new Douglas County site, Keurig operates eight production and distribution plants, including a facility in Williston, Vt., which will serve as a hub for Keurig Cold startup and early production work.
“Keurig Cold is an exciting new multi-brand platform for our company, and ensuring beverage pod production capacity and efficiency are key to its success,” said Brian Kelley, president and chief executive officer of Keurig. “The Douglas County region offers a diverse and skilled employee base as well as many geographic and economic benefits, making it a great location for our new facility. We are grateful for the support we have received from local and state representatives to help bring us to the region, and we look forward to becoming an active part of the community.”
