US-based Milo’s Tea is set to invest around $13.1m in the expansion of its Bessemer operations, in a move to cater to the increasing consumer demand for drinks in the country.

As part of the expansion, the company will expand its existing plant in the city, a move that would create 29 new jobs.

The company has also received property and sales tax abatement approval from the City of Bessemer, to purchase an adjacent 3.3 acre site and a building that will be used as cold storage.

Bessemer Mayor Kenneth Gulley said that Milo's Tea has expanded its product presence to 38 states.

"We commend Milo's Tea on its new initiatives and we're honored as a Mayor and Council to have worked with the company to help make this expansion a reality. The company's achievements are a testament that Bessemer, Alabama, is open for business."

Milo's Tea has introduced three new products to its iced-tea range, over the past six months.

In order to buy the adjoining property and seek abatements of property taxes as well as sales taxes on new equipment, the company worked with the City of Bessemer, the Bessemer Industrial Development Board and the Birmingham Business Alliance.
