Made in Nature, a processor of organic dried fruit products, has formed a joint venture with Portland, Ore.-based Pacific Northwest Kale Chips. Headquartered in Portland, the new venture, called Pacific Superfood Snacks, will launch products under both Pacific Superfood Snacks and Made in Nature brands. The partnership positions Made in Nature to expand its offerings of organic, ready-to-eat snacks.
Founded in 2012, Pacific Northwest Kale Chips manufactures six varieties of raw, organic, vegan and gluten-free kale chips. The brand is distributed in Whole Foods Market, Vitamin Cottage and independent grocers in western markets.
“The Pacific Northwest Kale Chips team has created incredible products that stand out,” said Doug Brent, president and chief executive officer, Made in Nature. ”Their youthful exuberance and entrepreneurial desire will help us bring fresh products to market. With Made In Nature’s 25-year history in healthy snacking, we see this partnership as a way to bring greater innovation to the snack category.”
In addition to dried fruit, Boulder-based Made in Nature produces organic frozen pizzas. Products contain no sulfur, artificial or bioengineered ingredients, or refined sugar. As part of the joint venture, Made in Nature will introduce kale chips and coconut chips in Costco stores in July.
“Our product lines are so complementary; they’re organic, made with real food and are nutritionally dense while being irresistibly delicious,” said Sarah Pool, founder and chief executive officer, Pacific Northwest Kale Chips. “Our companies share the core value of protecting our food sources. We’re thrilled to join Made in Nature and continue innovate.”
